About Hilarapy™

Lizzie Allan

We can’t talk about Hilarapy without talking about Lizzie Allan. So, let’s start there. In her late teens, Lizzie experienced the dark night of her soul, which is a fancy way of saying she wound up in a psychiatric ward questioning the meaning of life. Lizzie spent her twenties getting her life back on track. She followed her joy of working with people; this led her through various multi-disciplinary roles working with adults and young offenders. Along with this passion for people came a deep love of comedy and its power to shed light on society and the human condition and reflect serious issues in a not-so-serious way.

In her early thirties, Lizzie took her dyslexic brain to university and got herself a BA in Comedy Writing and Performance. During an extensive research project, Lizzie discovered a comedy therapy formula for processing the trauma of her past. Soon, she began teaching others how to heal with humour. Everyone was blown away by the inspiring power of comedy birthed from a place of wellness. In 2015, Lizzie followed her intuition to expand personally and creatively. She went to Canada and trained as a registered therapeutic councillor and continued with her mission to make the world better with comedy therapy.

In Vancouver, Lizzie met Elaine Cheung, a successful businesswoman turned healer and technical Wizz Kid. Elaine was ready to get behind a vision she believed in after taking a one-eighty from a major life change and newly recovered from crippling health issues. Before long, Elaine’s can-do attitude catapulted the work Lizzie was doing into a whole different dimension. Elaine is the smarts-behind-the-scenes but isn’t afraid to jump on stage and flex her funny bones. Now they’ve attracted a team of talented people, and the Hilarapy (you see today) was born.
